Ingredients

Cake:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup sour cream

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1/2 cup fresh blueberries

  • 1 tsp dried lavender buds

Lavender Chocolate Frosting:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp dried lavender buds (infused in 2 tbsp warm milk)

  • 1 tbsp heavy cream

Instructions

  • Prep Cake:

    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.

    • In a medium bowl, whisk flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

    • In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.

    • Alternate adding the dry ingredients with sour cream and milk, mixing until just combined.

    • Fold in blueberries and lavender buds.

    • Divide batter between pans and bake 25–30 minutes. Cool completely.

  • Make Frosting:

    • Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla, and beat until creamy.

    • Infuse lavender buds in warm milk for 10 minutes, strain, and add infused milk with heavy cream to the frosting.

    • Beat until fluffy and smooth.

  • Assemble Cake:

    • Stack cooled cakes with a layer of frosting between them. Frost the top and sides evenly.

Notes

  • Strain lavender buds from milk for a smoother frosting texture.

  • Add a few blueberries on top as garnish for extra visual appeal.

  • Store in the refrigerator, but serve at room temperature for best flavor.
