Description

This Garlic Butter Steak Bites and Mash recipe is a savory, satisfying dish featuring juicy steak bites tossed in herbed garlic butter and served over creamy mashed potatoes. A perfect weeknight dinner or indulgent comfort meal.

Ingredients

For the Steak Bites:

  • 1 lb (450 g) sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Mash:

  • 2 lbs (900 g) potatoes, peeled and cubed

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Mash:

    • Cook Potatoes: Place cubed potatoes in a pot, cover with cold water, salt lightly, and boil. Simmer until tender, about 15 minutes.

    • Mash Potatoes: Drain and return to pot. Add milk and butter. Mash until smooth. Season to taste.

  • Cook the Steak Bites:

    • Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.

    • Cook steak bites in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until browned and done to your liking. Remove and set aside.

  • Make Garlic Butter Sauce:

    • Reduce skillet heat to medium.

    • Add garlic and cook 1 minute. Stir in butter, thyme, and rosemary. Cook until fragrant and bubbly.

  • Combine and Finish:

    • Return steak to the skillet. Toss to coat in the garlic butter. Heat through for 1 minute.

    • Season with salt and pepper.

  • Serve:

    • Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates. Top with steak bites and drizzle with garlic butter from the skillet.

Notes

  • Ribeye or New York strip can also be used for extra tenderness.

  • Add a splash of cream to the mash for extra richness.

  • Great with a side of steamed green beans or a crisp salad.
