This Salisbury steak recipe is a classic comfort food favorite featuring tender beef patties simmered in a rich onion gravy. Perfect for a hearty family dinner with mashed potatoes or rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 (10 1/2 oz) can Campbell’s French onion soup

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef

  • 1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs

  • 1 egg

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper (to taste)

  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup ketchup

  • 1-3 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce (to taste)

  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder

  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix ⅓ cup French onion soup with ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper.

  • Shape mixture into 6 oval patties.

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown patties on both sides.

  • Drain excess fat.

  • In a small bowl, whisk together flour and remaining soup until smooth.

  • Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, and water.

  • Pour sauce over beef patties in skillet.

  • Cover and cook on low for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until sauce thickens and patties are fully cooked.

Notes

  • Serve with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or steamed rice.

  • Add mushrooms to the gravy for extra flavor.
