Ingredients
For the White BBQ Sauce:
-
1/2 cup mayonnaise
-
2 tbsp white vinegar
-
1 tbsp lemon juice
-
1 tbsp prepared horseradish
-
1 tsp Dijon mustard
-
1/2 tsp garlic powder
-
1/4 tsp salt
-
1/4 tsp black pepper
-
Optional: 1/2 tsp sugar for balance
For the Subs:
-
2 cups cooked shredded or sliced chicken (rotisserie works great)
-
4 sub rolls or hoagie buns, split
-
1 cup shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese
-
Butter or olive oil, for toasting
-
Optional: shredded lettuce, pickles, red onion, or tomato slices for topping
Instructions
-
In a bowl, whisk together all ingredients for the white BBQ sauce until smooth. Chill while assembling sandwiches.
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
Mix the chicken with about ½ cup of the white BBQ sauce until well coated (add more to taste).
-
Open each sub roll and place on the baking sheet. Lightly brush with butter or oil and toast for 3–5 minutes.
-
Fill each roll with sauced chicken and sprinkle cheese on top. Return to oven for 5–7 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
-
Top with optional toppings like lettuce or pickles, drizzle with more white BBQ sauce if desired, and serve hot.
Notes
-
Sauce can be made ahead and stored for up to 1 week.
-
Use grilled or sautéed chicken for added texture.
-
Add a dash of hot sauce or cayenne to the BBQ sauce for a spicier kick.
