Description

These White BBQ Chicken Subs are a bold Southern twist on the classic sandwich—featuring juicy chicken, creamy and tangy white BBQ sauce, and melty cheese all tucked into a warm, toasted sub roll. Fast, flavorful, and perfect for weeknight dinners or game day feasting!

Ingredients

For the White BBQ Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise

  • 2 tbsp white vinegar

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp prepared horseradish

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • Optional: 1/2 tsp sugar for balance

For the Subs:

  • 2 cups cooked shredded or sliced chicken (rotisserie works great)

  • 4 sub rolls or hoagie buns, split

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese

  • Butter or olive oil, for toasting

  • Optional: shredded lettuce, pickles, red onion, or tomato slices for topping

Instructions

  • In a bowl, whisk together all ingredients for the white BBQ sauce until smooth. Chill while assembling sandwiches.

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Mix the chicken with about ½ cup of the white BBQ sauce until well coated (add more to taste).

  • Open each sub roll and place on the baking sheet. Lightly brush with butter or oil and toast for 3–5 minutes.

  • Fill each roll with sauced chicken and sprinkle cheese on top. Return to oven for 5–7 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.

  • Top with optional toppings like lettuce or pickles, drizzle with more white BBQ sauce if desired, and serve hot.

Notes

  • Sauce can be made ahead and stored for up to 1 week.

  • Use grilled or sautéed chicken for added texture.

  • Add a dash of hot sauce or cayenne to the BBQ sauce for a spicier kick.
